On behalf of the Nepalese Society of Oculoplastic Surgeons (NESOS), I warmly welcome all faculty members and participants to the APSOPRS–NESOS Cadaveric Dissection Orbital Decompression Masterclass, organized in collaboration with Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences and Dhulikhel Hospital, and hosted at Dhulikhel Hospital.
This masterclass ensures our commitment to advancing excellence in oculoplastic and orbital surgery through structured, hands-on surgical training. Cadaveric dissection remains a cornerstone in mastering orbital anatomy and refining techniques essential for safe and effective orbital decompression. I sincerely thank APSOPRS for their academic partnership, Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences and Dhulikhel Hospital for their institutional support, and our distinguished faculty and organizing committee for their dedication in making this program possible. I am confident this masterclass will be a valuable academic experience and will further strengthen professional collaboration within the region. With best wishes for a successful program, Eliya Shrestha, MD President, Nepalese Society of Oculoplastic Surgeons (NESOS) |
Message from the Masterclass Coordinator |
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Asia Pacific Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery it is a pleasure to invite you to the 6th APSOPRS Masterclass, focusing on cadaveric orbital dissection and decompression techniques. This academic program is being organized as a part of a series of ongoing masterclasses of APSOPRS held in various countries since last year. It will be held in collaboration with the Nepalese Society of Oculoplastic Surgeons (NESOS) and Dhulikhel Hospital, Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences, and will be hosted at the Dhulikhel Hospital campus. This masterclass is designed to provide an in-depth, hands-on learning experience in orbital surgery, integrating focused lectures with meticulously guided cadaveric dissections. Emphasis will be placed on surgical anatomy, thyroid eye disease, orbital decompression techniques, and contemporary approaches to complex orbital tumors, under the mentorship of experienced and the best regional and international faculty from Asia Pacific countries. A distinctive feature of this program is the use of a Virtual Dissection Table, offering an advanced, interactive platform for three-dimensional visualization of orbital anatomy. This technology will complement cadaveric dissection and enhance participants’ anatomical understanding and surgical planning skills. Set in the tranquil hill-station surroundings of Dhulikhel, with its refreshing climate and panoramic Himalayan views, the venue provides an inspiring atmosphere for academic exchange and professional camaraderie. We cordially invite ophthalmologists, oculoplastic surgeons, and residents with a special interest in orbital surgery to join us for this unique educational experience that blends surgical excellence, innovation, and natural beauty. On the following day, NESOS is organizing a luncheon CME on Thyroid Eye Disease, in Kathmandu, with prominent international faculties. While you are in Nepal, you are welcome to join this academic course as well where registration is waived for all the delegates. We look forward to welcoming you to Dhulikhel and Kathmandu. Warm regards, Dr Purnima Rajkarnikar Sthapit Course Coordinator APSOPRS Masterclass on Orbital Surgery |

Program Syllabus
I. Foundational Concepts in Orbital Surgery
A practical overview of compartment-based orbital anatomy with emphasis on critical neurovascular structures and surgical danger zones. Imaging principles for orbital surgery are reviewed, highlighting the complementary roles of CT and MRI in surgical planning and risk assessment.
II. Orbital Tumors
A structured approach to orbital tumors covering classification, clinical and radiologic red flags, and indications for biopsy or excision. Surgical planning and key orbital approaches—anterior, lateral, medial, and combined—are reviewed, including management of vascular tumors and postoperative considerations.
III. Orbital Abscess and Infectious Orbital Disease
An overview of the pathophysiology and clinical spectrum of orbital infections, emphasizing timely recognition and indications for surgical intervention. Focus is placed on preventing vision loss and serious complications through appropriate surgical decision-making.
IV. Thyroid Eye Disease
A comprehensive review of thyroid eye disease with emphasis on Asian-specific presentations, including low activity disease and compressive optic neuropathy. Indications and techniques for orbital decompression, endoscopic approaches, and current adjuvant and targeted therapies are discussed.
